• I have been downloading a couple of themes and so far have not been able to convert the “blog” format to a web site.
I want to be able to edit the main page and not have all that other stuff like archives, comments, search etc,
I just want a theme that can maybe have a slide show on the main page and be able to edit the main page as I can with “new” pages.
How do I change the blog page over to a “home” page ?

I current have a few sites designed with the HTML system that I wish to change over complete with a new style format.

  • Here is how to have a Static front page: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

The items in the Sidebar start as a default Widget.

Dashboard >> Appearance >> Widgets – when you put your first Widget in the Sidebar the default ones go away.

The Comments can be turned off for any Page or Post – that is down the Edit Page / Post screen a bit.

If you have real specific questions, leaving a link to the site can often be helpful to the unpaid volunteers that provide the answers in the Forum.

This should get you started, I have never done a slide show so I can’t really be of help there.

Sounded like a good idea however when I remove my “unwanted” widget the originals re-appear.
I will try the static page system ,

    Thanks for the reply.

You need at least one Widget in the sidebar to override the Default Widgets.

You can take the Default Widgets out without adding a new Widget but that takes working with the code for the Theme.

Maybe there is one Widget you can tolerate? A Text Widget that just shows a small picture maybe?

I believe that a blank text widget will suffice as well. It has worked in the past for me.

That link to codex.www.ads-software.com need a bit of work right at the finish.
It refers to editing the template file featuring the wp-list pages.
I did manage to find out what it meant via Mr Google and a you tube video.

This last paragraph need to be expanded and offer more explanation about the editor and where it is etc. It looks like the author just got sick of writing and finished too quickly.

Not that I am any kind of expert, Thats why these training writings are so important to be correct.

The Codex is edited and contributed to by volunteers like you and me. Anyone with a support forum login can login to the Codex. Since you found additional info, it would be great if you could finish up the article for everyone.
