Hello! What’s the best way to convert old Comicpress posts to Webcomic?

I have a client that’s still using the old Comicpress 2.5 theme and I want to move them over to Webcomic. They have over 2k+ comic posts so I’ve been researching how to convert in bulk. I don’t want to break their urls or have to do a lot of manual work if I can help it. Is there a way to do this?

My first plan was to convert everything to Comics Easel then migrate those posts to webcomic using the old plugin. But I’m unable to find any kind of guide on how to do that without losing the attached image or url.
I could hack it by switching the post type using a post type switcher plugin. But it looks like comics easel uses the featured image for the comic itself while Webcomic uses a custom media type. So I’d have to manually re-attach images.

With all this in mind, how would you recommend I do this? Is there a way to preserve their year/month/day permalink structure or will I have to write a custom .htaccess redirect?

  • Caveat that I haven’t tried this and can’t confirm how well it works…but the Webcomic plugin is supposed to have automatic integration with ComicPress/Comic Easel themes, which seems like it should work with the existing posts rather than breaking/moving anything:

Thank you Erin! It turns out that is actually the best way. I’m going to use the Post Type Switcher for a lot of the posts then use Webcomic’s Matcher program to associate the images with the posts due to a naming issue. Thank you!
