Convert Tags to Taxonomy Tags

Someone paid to have this done a few months ago. Looks like they probably re-wrote the wpcat2tag-importer plugin.

I’m not familiar with that site, and don’t know how to contact the developer. Just noting that this problem seems to have been solved, but the solution does not appear to be publicly available.

looks close to what is wanted, but would need testing I think. But I don’t know of a solution myself.

Ultimate Taxonomy Manager does almost everything except this.

The closest thing I could find was the category-tag importer:

If it were custom taxonomies instead of categories, it would be exactly what I need.

This is built into WP 3.0.1

-Open Dashboard>Posts>Post Tags
-Click on the number in the Posts column corresponding to the tag you’re interested in
-Select “Title” — Edit — Apply
-Your Custom taxonomy will now show up as an option box; just type in the value for the taxonomy that you desire.

Polins, we’re looking for a way to convert EVERY SINGLE TAG all at once to parts of a different taxonomy.

I’m actually not even sure what “title” you’re talking about (sounds like you’re referring to a single post or editing one tag), but I don’t think I’ve found a single way to do what we’re requesting in vanilla wordpress.

Polins, what you’re describing takes you to the quick edit panel for an individual post. Hand-editing each tag in each post is exactly what we want to avoid.

Bulk taxonomy conversion is not built in, but WordPress desperately needs it.
