convert to jetpack?

  • Can anyone please explain me what the advantage for me is to convert to JetPack? I need to connect my _self-hosted_ blog to wordpress.com? What does that even mean?

    I really liked this plugin, installing it now on a new blog, and suddenly it keeps nags about JetPack, I had a look, but it installs a zillion things (it seems) and requires me to connect to wordpress.com. Why?
