Converting a site to WP; how can I accomplish this type of photo page?

I’m trying to set up a page in WP to function as a gallery type page of race car photos. When a thumbnail is clicked, I want the photo to be displayed on a page called ‘photopage’; same page, 20+ photos, each dispalyed one at a time.

I was able to do this on the old, non-WP site at https://damageincracing.biz/DIR-Graphics/DIRsamples.htm

How can I accomplish this? Or am I going about this completely wrong? Is there a better solution?
