• I used to have my site hosted through Photoshelter. Their blog interface was terrible, so I created a WordPress blog subdomain and then just linked it to the Photoshelter site.

    Enter Corona and I’m cutting expenses. Decided to convert my entire site over to WordPress. I use my site for portfolio, contact and information about me, so it’s a very simple and straightforward site.

    When I added my main domain to WordPress, it put me into the Multisite realm. I don’t need the blog subdomain anymore and I’d like to return to the simpler single site interface.

    I am a new WordPress user and I am spending way too much time trying to figure out how to navigate the separate settings on the super admin level and on the site level and it’s just not necessary for me to have the super admin functionality.

    I exported my blog subdomain content and deleted it. But that didn’t automatically move me back to the single site interface.

    How do I convert back to the single site interface/functionality?

  • I guess what I would do is export my blog, delete all the things, start from scratch with a WordPress install on my main domain and then import my blog content into that WordPress site. You’ll want to make sure you have backups just in case this doesn’t work as expected. You should also be able to work with your web host to get this taken care of.

    Additional info:

    In order to import my blog xml export file into my main domain site, I would like to use the All In One WP Migration plugin. But because I have Multisite, I cannot use it without the Multisite Extension, which starts at $199. Since I really don’t need Multisite, it makes no sense to pay that.

    @phoenixfireball Okay, thanks!

    If you are really running a multisite…

    The overhead for running a multisite as just one single site is so small I’d not worry about it.

    The pluses are that you have the multisite capability if you really ever need it and you have that added granularity of having a SUPER ADMIN account to deal with certain abilities while separating the day to day site admin abilities from casual ‘wrong or harmful’ missteps.

    Another plus as a writer or copy creator is you might create on a well-hidden subsite at your own leisure then copy-paste or even syndicate your creative work when ready. It adds a bit of flow to your work efforts that you might find comfortable.

    It could free you from feeling you should have a localhost, which is a fantastic idea in itself but can be a problem workflow wise and a technical nightmare sometimes.
