Cookie and Consent banner not hiding

Hi there,

I can see the cookies message on your site, but it looks quite a bit different from what I am used to seeing, as normally it is a “floating banner” like you see here:

When I visit your site and attempt to dismiss the cookie message, I noticed that this results in your entire site reloading in the browser, which is not something the normal cookie banner will do. For example on my test site I can dismiss the banner and the site (behind the banner) does not actually reload when I do that.

Can you tell me more about how you modified this banner to make it appear as a “widget” instead? If you remove those customizations so that it appears as the standard banner, does that allow you to dismiss it as normal?

The odd thing is I have worked on another site – https://www.club-85.co.uk – that has the same banner and this does appear as a floating banner.

On the one with the problem, the banner was added by adding the available widget that appears in the widget view. Appearance – Widgets – and added to the Footer section. This was actually done for the one above too which is a bit confusing!

The banner itself is not modified in any way that I know of.

So…I’ve compared the banner with that in the TwentyTwenty theme and it looks like the JetPack CSS/scripts aren’t being enqued in the theme I’m using? And the themes custom JS is being used.
How do I go about enqueing it? I can find lots about removing it.

Thanks for that, @tobyw7. It could well be something with the way the theme is set up. Has this issue happened all along with this site?

I’d imagine that’ll cause more issues down the road — did the theme designers dequeue it on purpose? And, if it’s okay to check, do you run into the same issue with a different theme?

You might also be able to check this with the Healthcheck plugin, but since it’s a cookies and consent issue that may make testing there slightly more difficult.

You know what, I think it may have been a problem for a while but it’s only until recently when I’ve been setting up some other sites, that I had noticed the problem so am putting it down to the theme.

The health check all comes back OK, annoyingly.

Makes sense.

Let us know what you find from the theme developers. I’m assuming it’s fine if you use another theme temporarily?

@supernovia Oh yes, well I ended up using an alternate plugin which worked without any problems. If I hear back I’ll let you know!
