I’m trying to make privacy policies for my websites with Cookie cat. It seems to work well – but there are some puzzles.

    1) Why does Cookie cat identify so many more cookies on my website than Chrome does?
Cookie cat identifies up to 16 cookies on my website, Chrome identifies 5 at most (usually only 3). Why the disparity?

    2) Why does Cookie cat not identify cookies on my website that Chrome does?
Chrome tells me my website is placing a cookie called pvc_visits, but Cookie cat can’t see it.

    3) Cookie cat (but not Chrome) thinks my website is placing a cookie called _qca, (from Quantcast) but I can’t figure out where that is coming from. I thought Jetpack was the culprit, but Jetpack tell me they have discontinued using _qca over a year ago.

    4) When cookie cat identifies a cookie as “unknown” it would be useful to get a pointer to a website aggregating cookies – if some such exists. Google searches with the name of the cookie are no help at all. (Try Googling “pvc_visits” and you’ll see what I mean.)

The websites I am trying to use Cookie cat on are:
    https://atthequill.thesupercargo.com
    https://stopsandstories.thesupercargo.com
In both cases you will find a list of the cookies Cookie cat has identified under the menu link called Privacy (left-hand column)

Hi Supercargo, as confirmed by Jeremy Herve, you can remove the _qca cookie from your table of cookies as Jetpack no longer uses it.

pvc_visits[0] is used by the post-views-counter plugin.

    To answer your questions…
    1) Cookie-cat determines the possible set of cookies based on the active plugins in your site. Some cookies may only be delivered when a certain action has been performed.

    2) Unfortunately cookie-cat can only report on the cookies it knows about.
It didn’t know about the post-views-counter plugin until recently so didn’t associate pvc_visits with the plugin. I have to manually update the catalog to reflect the association.

    3) It no longer associates _qca with Jetpack. Mapping manually removed.

    4) When cookie-cat has been updated then google should start showing the results.

It’s up to you whether or not to include the cookies in the table.
You may wish to copy the generated HTML and paste the output statically into your Privacy page. Then de-activate cookie-cat and oik-privacy-policy until you next need them.
