Hi,
I am trying to: translate text in the cookie law info bar using WPML string translation.

URL of (my) website where problem appears:https://www.llanddewibrefi.org/

I expected to see: text translated and switching according to language selected

Instead, I got: Initial translation works fine with all text translated, but on switching back to original language, the text is overwritten (on the page and in the admin settings screen) with the second language translation, and the strings are subsequently marked for update in the string translation screen.

Steps to duplicate the issue: Enable cookie law info bar in cookie law settings. Visit site and switch language to Welsh, then back to English.

WordPress 4.2.7 running Twentythirteen Child theme.

Troubleshooting actions so far:

Site backup and setup test site on a different server using duplicator plugin:

https://www.starlightandseasonscrafts.co.uk/llanddewibrefi-1.org/
Increased the memory allocated to PHP from 40 to 256MB:

Checked that the issue persists in this context:

-Deactivated all non WPML related plugins, keeping Cookie Law Info

-Switch to WordPress default themes TwentyTwelve through Sixteen.

I have been through this with WPML support and setup ftp and user accounts for them to verify the problem. They have forwarded the ticket to their Themes & Plugins Compatibility Team and they will investigate further and may contact you if necessary.

I appreciate that you are unable to deal with all support requests for this plugin, and have therefore gone as far as I can with WPML, but they have now asked that I contact you requesting that you reply to their team.

If you let me know how to securely send the info, I can grant access to the test site and ftp account.

Many thanks.

• I have the exact same problem with my 4 language site. I hope that a solution is found soon…

I have temporarily re-enabled the cookie bar on the live site <https://www.llanddewibrefi.org/> in the hope that you will take a look and post a response as I obviously can’t post log-in details here, or allow public access to the duplicate test site. Whether you will be able to duplicate the issue depends on whether anyone else has viewed the site and switched languages in the meantime. Unfortunately we have a launch in about a week, so I will have to find another solution if you are unable to help with this.

Cookie Law Info doesn’t overwrite anything, the translations are handled by WPML. The most likely culprit is your caching plugin. I’m writing this via mobile so don’t have developer tools to hand but disable/relax the caching and see what happens. If that doesn’t solve it then you should go back to WPML as they have already certified this plugin as compatible and it is something in their code that will be causing this.

Thanks for your reply, but as you will see from the following list we do not have any caching plug-ins installed:
Business Directory Plugin – Version 3.7.1
Category Posts Widget – Version 4.1.5
Contact Form 7 – Version 4.3.1
Cookie Law Info – Version 1.5.3
Duplicator – Version 1.1.4
Google Calendar Widget – Version 1.4.6
iThemes Security – Version 5.2.1
OS OpenSpace Maps – Version 1.2.3
Stealth Login Page – Version 4.0.0
WordPress Backup to Dropbox – Version 4.4.1
WPML Multilingual CMS – Version 3.3.6
WPML String Translation – Version 2.3.6.1
WP Splash Page – Version 1.2
Yoast SEO – Version 3.0.7
You will also see from my initial post that I have tested by disabling ALL plugins except for WPML and Cookie Law Info, and also duplicated the issue on a separate installation on a separate server using default wordpress themes 2012-2016. Disabling browser caching and reloading the page also has no effect on the issue.
I am happy to send you access details if you can send me a secure contact form or email address.

Hi, you’ll need to raise a support ticket with WPML for this one as it’s an issue with that particular plugin. I’ll be happy to collaborate with them if they need input from me. Cheers

Hi Richard, as per my original post, I have gone as far as I can with a support ticket with WPML before posting here. They asked that I contact you to expedite a response to their compatibility team. Hopefully they will contact you soon & I look forward to an update.

(@richardashby)

Ok I’ll expect an email from them in that case. They should already have my contact details but if not then via https://cookielawinfo.com/contact.

Here’s the fix applied by WPML support – I’ve updated the cli-admin.php file on both live and test sites now and everything seems to work fine ??
– comment out this line:
– cookie-law-info/admin/cli-admin.php line #114
– function cookielawinfo_get_admin_settings()
//update_option( CLI_SETTINGS_FIELD, $settings );
