I have Cookie Notice installed on a site and just recently the Analytics code swas being changed – when I paste my Analytics tracking code into Script Blocking -> Head text area as follows:
    <script async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=UA-123456789-1">

I save, and it changes it to:
    <a href="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=UA-123456789-1">https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=UA-123456789-1</a>

Disabling Jetpack seems to have solved the issue, but that’s not an ideal solution.

This is the second plugin I have found that has a problem with Jetpack being activated even when no modules have been set up.

Hm, that’s a rather odd conflict.

What plugin are you using to add the script? “Script Blocking -> Head” isn’t part of WordPress itself.

Sorry – it’s this plugin: Cookie Notice.

This was happening on two sites for me yesterday and I just tested with a third on a test site to be sure – it works consistently like a toggle. Activate (not even set up) Jetpack and the code above changes. De-activate and the code returns to what I pasted in.

Interesting, that plugin may be conflicting with our cookie notice, I’ll look into this.

Meanwhile, maybe try our cookie notice instead? https://jetpack.com/support/extra-sidebar-widgets/cookies-consent-banner/

Thanks James, I took a look at the Cookie Consent banner in Jetpack but I couldn’t see a way to add other code to set cookies if the user accepted them.

For example, how would I manage Google Analytics code or Facebook Pixel code in such a way that they were only set if the user accepted cookies?

This is why I ended up using Cookie Notice, because it has an easy way to add all the codes provided by third parties in such a way that they are only added when user hits the accept button.

Does the conflict occur if you deactivate our Extra Sidebar Widgets module via the All Module view? https://jetpack.com/support/control-jetpacks-modules-on-one-page/

As for our widgets functionality, you’re right, it’s mainly just a bluck “Do you consent to our privacy policy, or not?” thing.

When it comes to Google Analytics, folks can already opt-out themselves by enabling Do Not Track in their browsers: https://allaboutdnt.com/ (I’m not sure if that affects Facebook though.)

Hi James, sorry to be so late coming back, deactivating Extra Sidebar Widgets doesn’t fix the issue I’m afraid. This is still an ongoing issue – Cookie Notice is the best GDPR solution I have found for small businesses so I have had to deactivate Jetpack on any site I can to get it working.

I’m based in Ireland, in the EU, and GDPR states we must give users the option to opt out of non-essential cookies *before* setting them.

Cookie Notice has over 1 million installs, so I’m surprised this hasn’t become more of an issue.

This is definitely the first we’ve heard of this, so it is rather odd.

Do you have any trouble with any other cookie notice plugin running alongside Jetpack, or just this one?

    (@frankprendergast)

This is the only one that has the functionality I require, so I don’t know really.

Let’s make sure we are on the right path. Please try a different cookie consent plugin and report back to us here with its performance on the site.

I’m sorry – I am not receiving email notifications of replies to this thread for some reason.

I don’t understand how checking a different cookie consent plugin will help with my issue.

If you can direct me to another cookie plugin with these features I will be happy to try it:

    • Free cookie consent plugin
    • Allows me to put all my tracking codes in a single location in the admin end
    • Allows me to configure where the notice appears
    • Ability to edit all the text the site visitor sees on the notice including button labels
    • Only put tracking codes my site *if* the user consents
    • Allows visitor to review cookie consent at any time

Alternatively if you would like to expand on what other plugin you want me to try and why I would also be happy to do so and report back.

    Thank you.

We’ll need to determine if the conflict on your site is specific to _this_ cookie notice plugin, so that we’re sure we’re looking in the right place for a fix.
