    Hi,

I just read this page of your documentation about cookieless setup : https://burst-statistics.com/definition/what-is-cookieless-tracking/

I am not sure to have well interpreted what you say.

The last sentence seems to mean that, even with cookieless tracking with a tool like Burst Analytics (server side, proprietary data, …), we still need a consent management platform and the consent of the use to track some data.

I thought, specifically in this case, with tools like Burst, it is not the case, even withouth cookieless because:
    – the data will be the property of the owner of the website
    – it won’t be shared with any other platform, people or business, nor sold
    – it is agregated, not at a user level but at higher level like visited pages, referral, channel grouping, countries, even when bound to goals
    – goals are only events, not conversions. We can track the click on the submit button of a form, but not the confirmation that the form has been sent.

With all these frame, I thought using Burst Analytics could work without a CMP like Complianz.

I am surprised because other solutions like Plausible or FathomAnalytics, which are GDPR compliant for the same reason written above, say that we can get rid of the CMP when using them.

Thanks a lot for your clarification on this point (and your work !)

    Hi @bastien31,

Thank you for your comment, I understand the confusion.

You are correct to state that within the mentioned boundaries, statistics tracking is allowed without explicit consent. However, I’d like to add that Burst is the only self-hosted solution when compared to the mentioned alternatives. This means that no data is stored at our servers or shared with us in any way.

When using Complianz as a CMP, we do offer a hybrid version for users that do want to ask consent for Burst cookies. For 99% of websites, operating without CMP is not possible because a lot more happens on a site besides statistics tracking.

I hope that this ads more context to the article and answers your questions. Please let us know if you have more questions.

    Kind regards,
    Leon

    Hi Leon,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply and premium support as usual. A good tool is not only on the technical side and you and your team do a great job on this point too.

Your reply is clear, but (!) I wanted a clarification on the following case:
    – in case we have a CMP, because there are other tags like Google Analytics or Google Ads, and Burst Analytics is not on cookieless mode and bound to the CMP (Complianz for ex), in this case:

    – when the user consents: all tags, Burst included, are loaded => OK
    – but when they don’t consent => does Burst automatically switch on cookieless mode?

    Thanks
