    I read somewhere (actually here) that your plugin was best for GDPR compliance. Many sharing plugins actually add cookies and scripts that are bad both for load time, and for such compliance. Does this plugin add a cookie? How much does it share data with other services or with the social media platforms?

    Yes, Shared Counts is completely GDPR compliant.

    It does not add any cookies or tracking scripts, nor does it collect user identifiable information.

    That was actually one of the main reasons we built it. We wanted to add social sharing buttons to our sites without the tracking scripts and calls to third party servers that most other social sharing tools have (including the “official” buttons from Facebook and others).

    Thanks Bill, that is very great news!
    I think it would be a big advertising thing if you highlight this GDPR compliance/no cookie feature in the description of the plugin.
    I’ll adopt it ASAP ??
    So I guess the exchange of data happens only when people click the buttons?

    When someone clicks a button, they are taken to that service to “complete” the share. So when you click the Facebook button, it opens a Facebook popup for sharing that post on Facebook.

    We then periodically ask Facebook for the total number of shares for that post (or SharedCount.com if you’re using them for API queries). This gives us a raw number – no information on who did the sharing.

    Re: updating our marketing to note GDPR – that’s a great idea. I’ve created an issue for it here and will try to update it sometime in the next week or so, before the next plugin update.

    That sounds perfect !
    I’ll follow up for the GDPR issue (the link does not seem to work though). We have been overwhelmed with GDPR new requirements here, but even when one is quite aware of them, it is difficult to find practical solutions that make it easy to fulfill the obligations and keep great features – especially with social media.
    If this plugin does, it will be a big +1+1+1 for everyone ??
