CookieYes adds 2500ms TBT
-
The problem: CookieYes implemented through GTM script is adding +2500ms TBT, which considerably slows down the page loading time, which hurts the user experience and SEO efforts.
CookieYes’ support quoted that “CookieYes proactively blocks scripts before obtaining consent“. They didn’t respond to questions whether this blocks essential JS scripts by Elementor or other page builders, how to add exceptions for such scripts, and have gone dark since. Support’s only proposed solution was to prefetch CookieYes’ DNS, which had absolutely no impact on performance.
Questions we have:
- What is the recommended CookieYes implementation method on a WordPress website: plugin, GTM, or script snippet? If there is a preferred method, what benefits does it offer over the other methods?
- How can we add exceptions to run essential scripts that do not collect any user data?
- Do geo features or other CY features introduce additional TBT? (We use geo targeting to show different banner to countries that are not part of GDPR.) Which features we should consider opting out from to reduce TBT?
We can keep going, but generally are looking for guidance on how to best implement the script or plugin to reduce impact on performance.
Thank you!
