• Am I doing something wrong when trying to copy an image from the media library?
I select the image and execute copy to another site in my multisite set-up but nothing happens?
When I copy a post it gets copied nicely together with the attached media files.

hey Harm. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you and sorry for the confusion because the MPD metabox should not be showing in the media post type as it doesn’t work! I’ll remove it in the next release but stay tuned because I am working on some functionality in that area! ??

OK. Can you give me any plan date for this new release?

Just finished functionality on this. Will be posting this to WordPress tomorrow ( V1.7 ?? ) but if you want to get your hands on this now you can get it here:

Hi! I tested the new version and the image now gets copied to the other site!
But……… although all thumbnails are also copied there is no thumbnail when you look at the image in the Media Library.
Are such thumbnails saved somewhere else? Could you please investigate?

Also a suggestion. You have added actions Duplicate to and then the multisite name. I have currently 7 on my test site but suppose there are even more? Then the drop down could become very long. Maybe it is possible to create a double drop down?

I can’t replicate your issue harm. Can you let me know what type of server you are on? Your version of php? If you are sure the correct jpg/png processing Libriaries are installed on your host? Does the same issue happen with both png’s and jpgs?

I tried it again and a png copies fine. Another jpg is also fine. So I retried the one I initially tested and that goes wrong again.
Then I tested a lot and I think I found it.
The faulty image was uploaded when my site was not a multi site yet. So its input location is outside the sites upload folders and within the regular upload folder. Could that be the cause of not saving it in the correct location (now multi site)?
If I look at the location the Media screen says it should be nothing is there (also no thumbnails)

What type of server I am on I wouldn’t know, I have to ask my provider. I am on PHP 7.1.
As other jpgs copy fine I didn’t try to answer your question about processing libraries.

BTW with all image file copies the copy prefix is not working (is not displayed on the input detail screen with its setting either)

    Was my description clear?

Yes. Not sure anything is actionable. It appears you have identified the issue? I think you are right about because the image was uploaded before activating the multisite as doing this changes the permalink structure. Off the top of my head `I can’t think of any way to get round that issue other than re-uploading.

Image duplication doesn’t copy any prefix. Intentional functionality there. Not sure why you would think that it would copy the prefix?

    (@harm10)

I believe you on your word that you can’t get round this problem. But if you can recognize the situation why “pretend” to do the copy? Wouldn’t an error message be more appropriate? You also end up with an invalid image on the receiving site.

I can also understand why the copy prefix isn’t used for media. But in the media copy panel you can access Settings and then all settings are displayed including the prefix. Adding this note to the information bullet after the copy prefix could make the user aware of this fact.

If you would also look at another suggestion in one of my previous replies? About the Site selector. Suppose I have 40 sites; would all sites be displayed then like the sites are displayed now?

    [ No bumping please. ]

Can you confirm you are running the most up to date version because I’m sure you don’t see the prefix in media copy anymore. I’ll need to check.

Your point about the 40 sites drop down is in consideration. Thanks for your input.

    Thanks for answering.
    I use the latest version.
The copy prefix is no longer there in copy media.
Also thanks for taking my suggestion in consideration.

So the only point left to discuss is the problem with copy media that have a location outside the regular multisite location (remnant of earlier single site).
I can understand that a working solution is difficult so I want to advocated to just display an error message and NOT copy the image as the end result is an invalid image on the receiving site.
    Do you agree? ??
