    Hello,

I am new to wordpres and have quite a task ahead of me.

    There are two blogs

    a
    and
    b

I have access to the webspace of both blogs, but I have only the WP-Login of blog B.

Blog a uses a differnt database than blog b.

What I want to do is, to make blog b a copy of blog a.

Is this possible and if so, how do I do this.

If this seems rather peculiar to you here is a litte backround.

More or les by chance I have been appointed admin of blog b. Both blogs are dedicateted to the same annual event, giving information to interested people. However blog a was in the care of another company, which held the event last year. My company does so this year.

Unfortunatly the admin of blog a is now longer available, so I can only access the webspace but not the blog directly. Now to save time I want to make a copy of blog a, without reconstructing it from scratch, after I have done that I can modify blog b according to my needs.

    Thanks in advance.

  • First you will need access to Blog A.

you don’t actually need the wp login to blog A, if you can get access to the file server and the database.

    Hello,

I am having access to the database.

Since I did not want to break anything I followed the tutorial to clone wp manually, which can be found here

    https://www.ryantmalone.com/tips-and-tricks/how-to-clone-a-wordpress-blog/

since I do not know the password from the old admin I ran the emergency script to reset my password.

Thereafter I still encountered a fatal error issue, I googled it and was told to do a manual upgrade of the wp-installation (which I did)

Now it looks like I really cloned the page I visible under the new url.

However I am unable to lock into the admin dashboard I am getting these errors:

Now befor you beat me blue …. I looked for spaces and additional lines … I can find none.

looks like is theme causing the problem switch to default theme and see if you still get the error.

How do I switch themes without access to the admin dashboard?

Try switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

You were right, it had to do with the theme.

When renaming the theme folder, I can log into the dashboard.

However I need this “old” theme.

The Behavior is currently als follows.

Unable to login with the old theme, renaming the theme and then login in and then reaktivating the theme works until the next login.

Now that I am able to access the dashboard, is the a possibility to pin point what is causing the problems and to fix them?

Btw. Big Thanks for all the answers so far, your help is invaluable.

    EDIT:

I was able to fix this myself …. as I mentioned in my first post, I am/was trying to clone an old blog into a new one, the new one was using the same theme, at least that is what the theme-menu tells me. I reuploaded the theme from the new blog and now everything works.

Thanks I again, I do not even dare to think about how much work it would have been to rebuild the old blog from scratch, just to apply minimals changes.
