copying blogs and keeping the same wt3 settings

  • Hi there:

    Could someone please help? Working on a large number of wordpress blogs/websites. I used one template for all of them and used W3 total cache.

    Here is the problem:

    I have optimized W3 Total Cache for one site and I need to install it on all the sites. But when I do this the settings don’t copy over. I can’t go into each blog to re-optimize for each blog (they are essentially identical & its too many). Has anyone else encountered this? Can someone please give me a way forward or tell me what I am doing wrong?

  • There is an Import/Export Settings area at the bottom of the General Settings of W3TC. There you could export the settings you already setup and import them into the new sites.

    Thanks Kfawcett, but we have used that. Here is my understanding of what happens. It is exported as a php file but the cache gets stripped out, so even though we upload it to a new site the settings have disappeared.

    Also is there an automated way of importing the setup into a lot of sites at once – rather than us having to individually import into each site? A true copy function for the W3 Total Cache settings – what do you do if you have hundreds of sites??

    Really, all the W3TC settings are in that PHP file. In fact, to automate the process, you could write an FTP script to copy:

    site1.com/public_html/wp-content/w3-total-cache-config.php

    into:

    site2.com/public_html/wp-content/

    Thanks TGeorge but though the settings are in the PHP file, they aren’t getting initiated. So when we upload them to the new blog, they don’t become effective. And we find that we still have to go into the new blog and redo the settings. What could be going wrong?

    I believe if we get the first issue resolved then the script you gave will enable us to upload W3 Total Cache with our original settings to a large number of sites easily. Is that right? Thanks for the script.

    Try this to make the settings effective:

    1. Import the configuration.
    2. On the General tab of W3TC, click on button “empty all caches”.
    3. If you’re in Preview mode, click on button “Deploy”.

    Do NOT use the “Toggle all caching types on or off at once” checkbox, because it will overwrite part of the settings.
