• I have a WordPress site at mydomain.com

I am attempting to create a new version with things like Buddypress integrated. In order to get it working fully before I put it on the live site, I want to copy my wordpress installation into mydomain.com/new then I can change everything I want and leave the live site unchanged. Then once I’m finished I’ll delete the live site and move move the installation in /new to the root directory.

Which part of the “moving WordPress” guide would I follow in order to do this? There are a bunch of different things there but I’m not sure what is best suited for me, I don’t want to touch my original WordPress installation, just copy it.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Install a new version of WordPress at /new
    Download the database of mydomain.com
Upload it to the database of mydomain.com/new
    Copy wp-content folder from mydomain.com to mydomain.com/new.

The instructions are brief, but it gives you the general idea.

Thanks for putting it so clearly, but I’ve never done anything with databases so I’m unsure how to

    Download the database of mydomain.com
Upload it to the database of mydomain.com/new

I know where to download a database in cPanel, but then what? I don’t know how I can associate it with the /new installation.
