I have a WordPress site using the “Pro Theme” from Themeco, and it appears to be broken much of the core functionality of the plugin.

Using a variety of methods to display events, we only get the message that “There are no upcoming events”.

Additionally, in the backend, we can’t properly edit events.

I’d add an image of it but I can’t figure out how. Instead of having fields to edit the event meta data, things like the following are directly in the editor:

Okay apparently you can’t paste using the block editor? Wow… At this point I’m about ready to give up on WordPress for good.

    They look like this: <!– wp:tribe/event-datetime /–>

I have tested with ONLY The Events Calendar plugin active and Pro Theme. So we can rule out any other conflicts. I also was using the parent theme.

Everything is fully up-to-date. The Events Calendar is 6.3.2, WordPress is 6.4.3, and Pro Theme is 6.4.11. PHP is 8.2. I have other extensions for The Events Calendar, however I don’t think that’s relevant since the problem still exists with everything else (including these extensions) deactivated.

I also tried uploading a fresh copy of the plugin.

If I switch to any other theme, it works fine, both with all other plugins activated or deactivated.

I have been working with themeco support but they told me that it’s a problem with your plugin and to reach out here. They said it’s not their problem.

    Any ideas?

    Hi @brianjohnsondesign,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Can you try downgrading your PHP version to 8.0 and see if the issue issue still exists?

    Best regards,
    Marta

I gave that a shot, but unfortunately it did not help. The problem is the same.

The events page shows pagination with 2 pages, though no results load up. I can’t remember if that was happening on PHP 8.2 or not.

    Hi @brianjohnsondesign

Could you try changing the value of Events Template from Events > Settings > Display page, and see if that makes a difference?

    See- https://share.zight.com/mXuzPAZX

I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have further questions or concerns.

    Hi Darian,

That did actually help with the display, thank you. Things look better now.

However, it doesn’t appear to solve the underlying issue. I can’t edit the events properly. The fields are showing up in the content instead of editable fields.

Here is a screenshot of what I mean: https://ibb.co/68414pY

There are no errors in the console or on the page. I just can’t edit it correctly.

As a result, even though the events page looks better now, it still says there are no upcoming events even when there are, I think because it can’t read the event dates properly.

I have also realized that even with a default theme, this is still a problem. So we can rule out the theme. The only reason it had display problems was because it was using a template from that theme on the Events page, and when there were no events it didn’t look right.

But even with a default theme, the problem I described exists, and future events do not show.

And that’s with all other plugins deactivated, too.

    Hi @brianjohnsondesign

    Thanks for your response.

To confirm, does the issue persist even if you activate only The Events Calendar plugin and a default theme? If so, please provide the values of the following from Events > Troubleshooting page:

    • Custom Tables Migration Status
    • Custom Tables Health Check

    Looking forward to your reply.

    (@brianjohnsondesign)

That is correct. Even with just the base plugin and a default theme, we have the same issues.

And sure, here’s what I found:

    Custom Tables Migration Status
    Completed
    Custom Tables Health Check
    Good!

    Hi @brianjohnsondesign

    Thanks for your response.

Can you please try deactivating all other plugins except for The Events Calendar and switch to a default WordPress theme such as 2020 or 2021? Then, try creating a new event to see if the issue persists.

If that doesn’t help, would it be possible for you to set up a staging version of your live site and try to re-do the migration from there?

Here are the steps to revert and re-do the migration:

    1. Update to the latest versions of The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro.
    2. Remove any un-needed draft events and empty the Trash.
    3. Activate only our plugins and use the 2020 theme.
    4. Make sure server-side caching is disabled temporarily while you’re migrating your events.
    5. Install and activate the Code Snippets plugin.
    6. Add this snippet and run it once (be sure it does not stay activated).
    7. Go to Events > Settings > Upgrades and go through the migration process again.

Please re-do the migration on your staging site.

Let me know how it goes.

    Thread Starter brianjohnsondesign

    (@brianjohnsondesign)

Yes: as mentioned, we have repeatedly tested with ONLY The Events Calendar plugin active and nothing else, and a default theme.

I have followed your instructions carefully for re-doing the migration on a staging site, and it did not work. There is no change. The problems still remain. I cannot properly edit events.

With “Classic Editor”, the options are shown as code in the main text editor, and can’t be changed.

With Gutenberg activated, there doesn’t appear to be a way to change most things, including the event date.

Any other ideas? Do you want access to the staging site?

    Hi there,

It’s possible that the problem you’re experiencing is connected to your server. To help us troubleshoot the issue, could you please go to your staging site and turn on debugging? This will allow us to see if there are any error messages related to our plugins that have been recorded.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Thread Starter brianjohnsondesign

    (@brianjohnsondesign)

    Hi Darian,

I tested and there are no notices or errors when debugging is enabled.

The hosting is WordPress-optimized and I have hundreds of sites here without issues.

    Anything else to try?

    Hi @brianjohnsondesign

Could you try to manually update our plugins through FTP, and see if that makes a difference?

Also, may I know the name of your hosting provider? I want to check if I can find any related issues about this one.
