• First of all, many thanks for the great plugin and all the hard work! We are using it to run a fundraiser campaign for our local Foodbank.

We’re attempting to find a way to make it easy for those signing up to know which matches correspond each other. For example, how would someone determine what 1C vs 2D works out to be? We’re expecting quite a few people who don’t really have too much expertise in these types of draws and since we are wanting everyone to predict the outcome of every match including the final all at once, before the start of the tournament we want to try to find an easy way for them to understand how the matches correlate. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,

    Adil

    Hi Adil,

Thanks for the compliment. And good luck on the fundraiser, hope it is a success (or at least enough to do some good).

The matches cannot be entered automatically, unfortunately. There is no way the plugin can know upfront or during the tournament what 1C and 2D is. So, there are a few options:

    1. Once the matches for a group in the group phase are over and the ranking in the group is final, an admin changes the team name in the WP admin (Matches screen).
    2. Or, you only let your users predict the group phase. And for the final rounds you use the bonus questions (e.g. “Predict which 16 teams reach the Round of 16”, etc.)
    3. As an addition to point 1 you can decide to only add the final matches to the prediction sheet when they are complete. You can do so by setting the Match type to invisible at first and changing it to visible once team names are entered for the matches. And then inform the players via email to enter the next predictions.

    Hope this helps.

Many thanks for the quick response Antoine.

I have a few questions, if you don’t mind:

    1) if we go with option 2, is there a way to update the results based on their answers without having to do it manually, similar to when we used your paid desktop version of your plugin for the 2010 world cup?

    2) Subsequent to 1), do we simply delete the round of 16 + quarters + semi + final matches in the plugin at that point?

    Thank you!

Antoine, will you run your plug in for a client. I know how to make pages on wordpress, basic data bases. But now I’ve been asked to run a world cup pool for an estimated 20 000 people. Please tell me how can we communicate each other.
    Thanks.

If you mean applying “correct” or “wrong” to the answers when you say “update the results”, then this is supported if you use the multiple choice answer type. Only thing to note, is that for the plugin to consider a user answer as correct, all options of that question must be correct. Which for the round of 16 might be a bit hard for the players. There are options to give fractions of the points (e.g. for every country you selected that is correct, you get 1 point to a max of 16 when you have all 16 correct), but that requires manual work for the admin. Or custom development.

p.s. “Paid desktop version”? I only have this plugin, no special desktop version, so not sure what you are referring to.

    2) Subsequent to 1), do we simply delete the round of 16 + quarters + semi + final matches in the plugin at that point?

If you decide to not use those matches and you go for the questions, then you must indeed delete the matches. Otherwise they count in the score and players are able to predict them.

@ivanmorales: Next time please open a new topic if your question or remark is not related to the topic. My email address for questions about the plugin is wordpressfootballpool [at] gmail [dot] com.
