• Hi All,

I’m considering moving my site over from .co.uk to .com to make it perhaps slightly more appealing to global visitors.

I currently have my email going through through .co.uk and I would like to keep that for at least a while.

Is it possible to have both .co.uk and .com, and have them both route through to a site on .com? Is this ‘domain mapping’?

Any thoughts on the best way to do this welcomed.

    Thanks,

    James

  • You can have two domains that point to the same destination, such as example.co.uk and example.com, without moving anything (in terms of WordPress).

Basically, it’s a matter of entering the right DNS records on the name server for the .com domain, and “parking” the new domain on your web host (usually an option in your cPanel).

The only downside I can think of might be with SEO. Google might penalize you for duplicated content if you don’t get things set up so they can see it’s really the same site with two domains. I think you can do that through Google Webmaster Toolkit, but that’s not my area of expertise– so I might be wrong about that.
