• It’s probably the wrong place to comment on it as it’s already a part of the built, but I did not find any other place, so…

I’ve been with WordPress for about 10 years already. It was slowly getting better and better, but the Gutenberg feels like a total downgrade. Thanks God there are ways to disable it and keep the old editor instead, otherwise I would simply cry non stop.

You should really keep it as an option. It’s far from being even average.

  • Consider including why you think it’s a downgrade so the team knows.

    Hi Maarten,

I guess we have a different understanding of what is better.

I understand that the users that have no clue about coding might appreciate it, but your desire to compete with page buiders should not be forced on all the users of WP.

There are people that prefer when the elements in the editor are clearly separated from each other and don’t freely float inside a white space, when they don’t take a half of the screen without a need for it. The classic interface is much cleaner and neater, as well as easier to navigate through.

Personally, I would way more appreciate a code highlighter and automatic tag closing that desktop code editors have. I never appreciated page builders and was always adding content via “Text” tab (with html tags). I don’t think I’m alone feeling this way.

At least make the Gutenberg an option. Thanks.

Thanks for your opinion! This is now way more valuable and constructive. I appreciate you taking the time to elaborate.

Maarten – it is an option, and will continue to be an option, until 2022.

Do I have to switch to Gutenberg when WordPress 5.0 is released?
Not at all. When it’s released, you get to choose what happens. You can install the Classic Editor plugin today and when 5.0 is released, nothing will change. We’ve commited to supporting and updating Classic Editor until 2022. If you’d like to install Gutenberg early, you can do that now too. The Classic Editor plugin has been available for 13 months now, and Gutenberg has been available for 18 months. Both have been heavily promoted since August 2018, and more than 1.3 million .org sites have opted-in already to either experience, so nothing will change for them when they update to 5.0.

My best advice to you is to download and install the Classic Editor and continue to manage your websites accordingly.
