We’ve been having trouble with our email for a couple of weeks at this point. After working solidly for a couple of years, we’re now getting errors and emails are not being sent at all. Here’s the error message we are getting (*some redacted info*):

Email Source: WP Core Mailer: Other SMTP SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. Connection failed. stream_socket_enable_crypto(): Peer certificate CN=*redacted.server.net*' did not match expected CN=smtp.*redacted*.com’SMTP server error: QUIT command failed Detail: CLIENT: 220-*redacted.server.net* ESMTP Exim 4.96.2 #2 Tue, 07 Nov 2023 12:38:41 -0500 220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited, 220 and/or bulk e-mail. I’ve tried this with 3 different services and it is giving roughly the same error each time. (The only difference between the SMTP server names, as those are being changed.) I’ve tested the credentials in other services and they seem to work fine there, so I’m really stuck on figuring out what is going on here. I’ve contacted my email hosting provider and they aren’t seeing the responses come through on the server, so it seems to not be able to connect.

Any thoughts on how I can get this figured out?

    Hi @jeffscroggs,

Thanks for reaching out! Upon inspecting your error log, I noticed the following line.

We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited, 220 and/or bulk e-mail.

Some hosting providers do not allow to utilize their email platform to send emails. Please contact your email/hosting support with the full error log and they should be able to assist you further.

In the meantime, you can also configure an alternative mailer of your choice by following our guide here.

    I hope this helps. Thanks!

Thanks, but I’ve actually attempted using the Gmail connection as well and am getting the exact same message. So I don’t believe this is tied to the email hosting provider. Any other thoughts on what could be causing this issue?

    Hi @jeffscroggs,

I apologize for the trouble! Instead of configuring the Other SMTP mailer option, please configure the Gmail mailer option on your site and let us know how it goes.

In case it helps to know, you can follow this video guide.

    I hope this helps. Thanks!
