I am on woocommerce 5.3.0 – it doesn’t show any new updates for the plugin.

when I am adding downloadable product permissions to a client’s order manually… I am receiving this error message.

“Could not grant access – the user may already have permission for this file or billing email is not set. Ensure the billing email is set, and the order has been saved.”

Please help, I was not having this issue a few days ago. I have not installed any new plugins either, and everything on my WordPress is up-to-date as far as plugins needing to be updated.

    Hey there!

Is this issue happening for just this customer, or are you able to reproduce the problem for a different customer?

Could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

    Hello!

We are working in a fix for it, but there’s some alternatives while we are fixing it.
For example you could add the downloadable product to your order items, and also include a discount for the whole product amount, and then you will be allowed to include the downloadable product permission. This could be nice to keep track of those products and discounts in the reports/analytics pages.

    I hope it helps.

    Hi –

I’d like to add an “I’m also affected” notification.

    Wordpress 5.7.2
    Woocommerce 5.3.0

Problem as described in original post: Manually adding permissions to an order yields this error message (in German, but same content). Reproducable with any orders, any customers. The mentioned workaround with adding the item to the order beforehand also works but is of course unhandy.

Can you give any hints or forecasts regarding the cause or the resolution of the problem?

    Thanks in advance
    Philipp

@claudiosanches unfortunately that doesn’t help when the order is in the “no longer editable” stage (but we could adjust download permissions still)

I am trying to upload/attached the digital files to an already existing order… here is the error message when I manually go to their order… and try to add/grant access to the downloadable file.

    Hi, again!

In case that you would like to give it a look at the bug report, then here is the link:

As the issue has already been reported and will be resolved in GitHub, I’m going to mark this thread as resolved. If you have any other questions about WooCommerce, please feel free to open a new topic!

    Thank you! ??

Please return the functionality as it was before version 5.3.
My site is essentially useless unless I can update my customer accounts manually.
I have no idea how to move forward other than to email files to my customers. This is super URGENT.

    I have the same problem.
Trying to give access to download files on backorders and it gives the same message.
    It was working perfectly before.
