• Hi Team,

After configuring the website using WordPress the site loads in http only and we wanted SSL installed. So we chose the plugin Really Simple SSL. I am stuck at the Generation step where it gives the error message “Could not verify TXT record for domain _acme-challenge.oldboys.scots.college”. The WordPress is installed in Ubuntu 24.04. LTS Linux version. We need assistance to overcome the this error and install SSL successfully or would like to know any alternative plugin to install the SSL certificate.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Naveed Nazeer.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • An SSL certificate is set up in the hosting. It is integrated into the server software so that it can also be used. WordPress can therefore not help here.

If you use the “Really Simple SSL” plugin for this, please ask in their support forum: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/really-simple-ssl/ – however, I would like to point out that what this plugin supposedly enables does not work in every hosting and sometimes leads to problems (in my experience). It would be better if you obtain an SSL certificate via LetsEncrypt on your Ubuntu server and integrate it directly into the server software instead of trying to configure it somehow via WordPress. You can find out how to do this in any Ubuntu documentation and community.
