I clicked the Start SEO Data Data Optimization and received the error Error parsing the response to JSON. Per the technical guide I made sure the debug mode was off at the wp_config file.

We’re sorry you’re having trouble with SEO data optimization. I imagine this can be frustrating for you. We’d like to look a closer look.

Do you see any error details within the same screen as reference in the Technical Guide?

Please provide us with screenshots that highlight the issue you are experiencing. You can use any image sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your own website. The technical guide said it was most likely the issue of debugging mode was on. I went into the file and debug mode is OFF. There was no other details other than what I initially posted. Below is the link to the screen print.

    Hi @pmccoy833

Would it be possible for you to try and reset the indexables?

    1. Install & activate the?Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations’, ‘Reset Prominent words calculation’, and ‘Reset Internal link counter’ buttons. After each click, the page will reload to confirm that each reset was successful. Note: this won’t actually erase your SEO data, which is also stored in WordPress’ default tables. It’ll just reset our index (custom tables) for that data.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “Start SEO data optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your?content.

For your site’s health and safety, we recommend creating regular backups of your site and database. This is especially important before installing, updating or removing plugins. Learn more about the benefits of regular backups.

Could you check if the process then completes?

I installed, activated and used the Yoast Test as you prescribed. After clicking the Start SEO data optimization, the same error popped up.

    Hi @pmccoy833

Could you check if there are any JavaScript errors appearing in your browser’s console when you encounter the ‘oops’ message again when running the SEO data optimization process? And could you share a screenshot with us?

We also recommend trying to complete the SEO data optimization process in troubleshooting mode in the Health Check plugin, with only a default WP theme such as TwentyTwenty, and only Yoast SEO 16.9 as the plugin enabled, just to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that could be causing an issue.

Otherwise, if it still errors out, we’d need to investigate this further, but we are unable to do so over these public forums. You might want to consider Yoast SEO Premium so we can take a closer look at this.

Here is the screen print. The following errors:

I was able to complete the SEO data optimization in troubleshooting mode, so it was clearly an issue of a conflicting plugin or theme. Hopefully you will be able to use the jscript errors I provided for development purposes.

I also have a notification that the plugin believes I am using WordPress in a language you don’t support. I am using English (US) which I know you support. It isn’t giving me a problem, but that is something you can look at. I am marking the problem as resolved.

I logged back into the site and now I’m locked out! All your “support” broke my site! I can’t do anything now! Your scam plugin hijacked my administrator user and changed me to customer, and nothing is working to get me back in my site! It should be removed altogether and banned from wordpress!

    Hello,

Have the same issue – nobody can help – all say that a other plugin is the problem.
I think yoast is a very bad plugin.
    no good support.

    Thank you

Had the same problem, found https://passionwp.com/response-is-not-a-valid-json-response-error/ and the first suggestion (resetting permalinks) solved it.
