    Hello,

I signed up to try out Defender 3 days ago and activated the “country blocking” feature in the Firewall. However, according to my Google Analytics, those countries are still able and are accessing my site.

Please note that I did sign up to a free maxmind.com account and applied their license to my site which was supposed to enable the “country blocking” feature.

Any advice on how to rectify the situation would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hi @telluwide,

By default, the feature should have worked without such anomalies. Did you try clearing the server cache to rule out whether the issue isn’t due to that?

Possible to share the site URL and also mentioned which country you have blocked, so that we could check further regarding the issue noticed?

    Kind Regards,

    Nithin

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. This website is on a shared hosting plan and I have access through cPanel. How would I be able to clear the server cache through cPanel. As far as providing a URL, I may be able to do so through a private message.

    Thanks again!

    Hi @telluwide

Please just look through the cPanel options (icons on the main cPanel screen after login) and if there is any server-side cache you should see either icon for cache configuration directly or it may be “hidden” under some “Site optimization” option.

If you can’t see anything like that, there’s most likely either no server-level cache enabled at all or it’s not allowed by the host to be cleared/controlled by cPanel. It’s always good to just ask the host support to make sure.

Aside from that, let me get back to Defender itself. I understand that you not only configured MaxMind key in Defender but you have also added countries to the list of blocked countries already, right?

If so, please go to the “Defender -> Firewall -> Settings” page and

    – you’ll see a set of options there for the “Detect IP Addresses” settings
    – and below it there’s a “Detected IP(s)” and “IP Settings” information
    – so compare that with your actual IP from which you are accessing the site – if this is not the same, test other settings options until you get correct IP displayed

This is one of the causes of incorrect behavior of Firewall – when IP detection is affected e.g. by some CDN or proxy or some other (usually server-level) firewall.

    Best regards,
    Adam
