    Hi All,

I’m new here, so just saying hello!!

I am currently a user of Joomla and have used it to successfully run a personal website that I present my photos on.

Anyway, I am looking to create a blog and would like to know a little bit more about WordPress.

I just have a few initial questions to start with:
    * am I able to customise the look/feel of it?
    * I will not just want it to be a blog down the centre of the page, with the archives on the right. I may want a few permanent links to content (maybe a couple of reviews etc, that will separate links and will not need to be searched for).

This will primarily be a blogging site, but I also want to make sure I can manage my content effectively!

    Thanks in advance!
    Amnesia

  • IMHO, having used both, WordPress is far more user friendly and much easier to customize.

There are many themes for WordPress, they are easy to install, and there is a lot of variety to choose from. Try browsing the official Theme Directory.

You should be able to have a lot of control over your sidebar or sidebars using widgets, but if you want to get your hands dirty with code, the no limit to what can be done!

Unless you have very specific needs, WordPress can for all intents and purposes be considered a content management system.

To get the perfect site for your needs, you will need to to theme customizing, if not creating a theme from scratch.
Which is easy once you sit down and take a few days of intensive researching, experimenting and perusing of other codes. After that it’s a breeze.

If you’re interested in a photoblog, this is an example of a theme I created for an artist. It uses a plugin of mine, but it’s dead simple to operate. Create post, write text, upload image, done. No embedding of image, no aligning etc.

    Go for it ??
