Coupon exclusion not working properly?

  • I have two categories: Shirts & Shoes

    Coupon excludes discount on shirts.

    Customer now bought a pair of shoes, and a shirt in the same cart.

    On the cart, he tries to apply the coupon (which supposedly should give him discount on the shoes only), but he gets the error message “SORRY, THIS COUPON IS NOT APPLICABLE TO THE CATEGORIES: SHIRTS”

    So my question is, can a included and excluded product not be in the same cart when applying discount coupons?
