    Natalie,

For clarification this post has two major topics.

    Topic One: Course Catalog

In order to have a Course Catalog that displays my courses under three specific categories:

    1. Remove the current “My Catalog” page from the Menu Editor.
    2. Create a new Menu Tab entitled “Course Catalog” (I would create a Elementor page titled Course Catalog to do this).
    3. Create three Elementor categories pages: Theological Studies, Biblical Studies, and Applied Life Studies; with the shortcode: [lifterlms_courses category=”example-slug” order=”ASC” orderby=”date” posts_per_page=”5″]

Question: In the shortcode, how do I indicate the category for one of the categories I designated above, or do I need to do this? Also, in the shortcode, does the number “5″ indicate the number of courses to appear on each page? I want 9 on a page.

    4. In the Menu Editor I would nest each category page under the “Course Catalog” page.
    5. Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the Menu Editor.

    Topic Two: Course Categories

When creating course categories there are two fields I’m need explanation about. They are:

    1. On the left side, the Slug field. What is its purpose? Do I need it in relation to above topic?

    2. On the right side, under Bulk Action, there are listed two words with a check box in front: Beginner and Featured. What are they, specifically the Featured. I can’t find any reference to Featured Category on the forum or LifterLMS support pages.

Does this have to do with the way the course category is displayed on a category page? The word featured means “displayed, advertised, or presented as a special attraction.” Obviously, I want the course displayed on the main menu tab “Course Catalog”, on the indicated category page.

    Thanks

  • Hi @dr_dad,

    Topic One:

There is information on course categories here: https://lifterlms.com/docs/using-course-categories/ You will want to assign a category for the relevant course. Then, in the shortcode where is says, “category = example slug” the example slug will be the “slug” you created for the course category. Usually, it’s the same name as the title of the category. So, if you have “Theological Studies” the slug you’d create would be “theological-studies” and that’s what you’d want to plug into where “Example Slug” is.

Also, yes 5 is the number of courses to appear on the page. You can change 5 to 9 to haven in courses appear on a single page.

The rest of these steps are correct.

    Topic Two:

1.) The slug field is necessary, yes. The Slug is what creates the link, it’s also what you’ll plug in to display the category you want on your course catalog pages.

2.) These are examples, you can delete them or assign courses to them. They’re just there if people need an example of what a category is, what it looks like, how to work with it before building their own.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks, Natalie,

I created the three categories, with slugs.

I set the category on my Theology course.

I created three nested pages in Elementor (used the shortcode, made the changes to the shortcode you verified) to show under the menu tab, GCLC Courses (Catalog) and modified my menu and saved it. Working great. My Theology course is showing up in the nested Theology page.

    These things are working well.

I’m still having problems with my Purchase Table showing up on my live website. (This is a different Support Topic I’ll add to that thread.)

Thanks for helping me with these things!!

    Hi @dr_dad,

Wonderful! I’m glad these things are working for you!

We will go through the other support tickets to address the other issues!

    Thanks and take care,
