CPT Table-Storage Information?

Noticing that PODS Custom Post Type is now storable in a [dedicated?] table, is there any information or documentation that describes the functionality and features available (or differentiation) to a Custom Post Type using table storage vis-à-vis meta storage?

(I’m beginning a major project consisting of six inter-related Custom Content Types, and must decide how to use PODS before I commit to significant data loading of the website.)
