CRASH CRASH CRASH
-
Hi Steve,
Sorry to hear you’re not happy with the plugin. So we can determine more on this can you share more details on this and we can investigate? The following may be of use:
- Did you site crash as soon as you installed Site Kit, or when you were using the plugin?
- Are you able to access your WordPress admin dashboard at present?
As there are many causes for a site crashing, including some hosting related which could be triggered by installing any plugin, once have the above we can assist further.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hiya James. I installed the plugin and as soon as I activated it I had a white screen in place of my dashboard. I waited for a while (went for a coffee) but it hadn’t cleared.
I closed my browser (firefox but I tried chrome too, to no avail) and tried to access my dashboard, but again on logging in I was greeted with a white screen. I tried on my laptop but it was the same. I got out of the fix by using ftp to rename the plugin folder. WP then disabled it because it couldn’t be found. I then restored the folder name and was able to remove the plugin using the dashboard.I’m hosting on a creaky old c-panel…
PHP version: 7.3.30
Server version: 10.3.31-MariaDB – MariaDB Server
Protocol version: 10I hope this helps.
Cheers.Hi Steve,
Appreciate the update, and nice troubleshooting renaming the plugin directory name. Great that you were able to regain access to your site.
I’m hosting on a creaky old c-panel…
PHP version: 7.3.30
Server version: 10.3.31-MariaDB – MariaDB Server
Protocol version: 10Thanks for sharing this. Site Kit does support your PHP and server version, however, what I suspect may be happening is your PHP configurations or server settings are impacting Site Kit set up. If you’re willing to give Site Kit another try I’m happy to check more detailed settings if you’d like to share your Site Health information.
If you prefer to perform some checks yourself you may wish to check your storage capacity with your hosting platform, check another WordPress site on the same hosting platform or use the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin to rule out third party plugin conflicts.
I’ll keep an eye out for your Site Health information. Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you!
Hello James.
Sorry for the slow response – I often neglect my site for months ??
I tried again but it was the same. I’ve submitted the site health informtion though.
I hope this helps in some way.Cheers
StephenHi Stephen,
Many thanks for checking once more, and no problem with the delay. From reviewing your Site Health information I see some plugins active which could possibly impact Site Kit setup with particular configuration. I don’t see anything unusual with your hosting environment based on the specs output in your Site Health information.
Rather than ask you to troubleshoot this further, what I’ll do is recreate the same environment, with plugins, theme & the same host.
Note that this may take me some time, so if it’s ok with you I’ll report back to you at some stage this week. While I’m doing so it would also be great to know at what point your site crashed. Was it at some point when installing Site Kit, or was it after activating the plugin?
Many thanks for your patience on this @steve_bolton. I’ve tested the same theme, same plugins and same hosting provider. In my case I don’t encounter any issues, nor do I see any browser console errors.
As there are a variety of configurations possible, at both host and plugin level, you may wish to perform the below check, which can help determine a conflict:
- Login to your site from a Chrome browser incognito window
- Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
- Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
- From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google”
- Attempt to activate Site Kit once more
Let me know if you have any questions with the above. These steps will ensure that no third party plugins are running when activating Site Kit, which can be useful in the event of a plugin conflict.
If the same occurs please share your Site Health status, which differs from your Site Health information which you kindly shared previously. (Tools > Site Health > Status)
Hi @steve_bolton,
I’m just following up with you to check whether you’ve since been able to set up Site Kit, or have you decided to use another solution? I’d be happy to check this further if you’d like to share the information requested above.
