  • For some reason it’s taking 3-7 seconds to load the Javascript file on your site, which causes other elements on the page to time out.

I would suggest trying the standard viewer to see if that resolves the issue (as it will likely load faster).

    EDIT:

It takes forever to load the document when I try it directly from Google as well:

You may instead try hosting the file on a server that will respond faster; I would suggest Dropbox as an alternative.

OK that’s working now – server is just too slow – hosting on dropbox solved it.

    Thanks for your help k3davis!

Thanks Tom, glad it was resolved.

    Hi K3davis,

I hope you can help I have the same problem with this plugin the PDF only appears to load halfway and stops.

This has only occurred after the last plugin update

    website link https://ksc-stalbans.org.uk/about-us/national-ksc/

It will timeout and offer a different link to load the page.
I have tried your suggestions above but they did not work.

I look forward to hearing from you

    Regards
    Pat

    Hi Pat,

It does appear you’re having the same problem. It’s not related to the plugin update, since your document won’t load in Google viewer even if I view it directly from Google rather than through the plugin. Google isn’t able to fetch your document – either it is taking too long (as the error message states) or it can’t connect to your server at all and simply times out.

What exactly have you tried? I would suggest hosting the file elsewhere, on a server that can respond more quickly, such as Dropbox. Some shared hosting accounts host so many sites that their performance is very poor. But, there may also be network or DNS issues between your site and Google that are to blame. In any case, it’s not working with the file hosted on your site at this time.

    Hi Kevin,

Just to confirm after about 30 seconds I get the following message
Sorry, its taking too long to find the document at the original source. Please try again later. You can also try downloading the original document by clicking here.

Can you tell me why I get this message and when I click on it the document downloads immediately?
and if thats the case can I set the viewer to use this option by default.

    Regards
    Pat

    Pat,

Yes, I see the error message, which explains my earlier response. The fact that you can download it immediately when you click the link means the link is good – you’re not putting something wrong there – but the fact is GOOGLE isn’t able to retrieve it in a timely way, for whatever reason. This will affect you regardless of the viewer settings you use, since it’s a problem with Google Viewer accessing your site directly, it in fact has nothing to do with my plugin at all.

    Hope this clarifies,

    Kevin
