Create a whitelist of user account names

I recently had a customer make a purchase who’s email address was [email protected]. The site doesn’t allow for guest checkouts, so upon completion of the order, a user account was created for them and it used the first portion of the email address, in this case ‘admin’, as their user account. Definitely not a user account name I want somebody else having on my site.

I’m curious if there’s a way to whitelist a set of usernames that should never be allowed to be created as part of the checkout routine.
