Create Simple Page Template

I want to create a page template that outputs a one column page with minimal margins, and a three column, multi-row table with placeholder text.

I can get the wide, one column effect, but I CANNOT get my template to display the table with placeholder text. Well, yes, it displays, after I publish, but it does not appear in the Visual or Text tab of the “Add New Page” page.

Can anyone help? I suspect it has something to do with the “loop,” but I confess I am out of my element when people start talking about the loop.
