    Hi there,

I’m trying to run 2 different blogs from one hosting service with 2 different domains. After researching and playing, I see we are able to manage multiple sites from 1 WP install (sweet!). I set up the multi-site changes in the wp-config, followed some how-tos, installed the domain mapping plugin, played with that – but now I’m stuck.

My main blag site sits in the root web folder (where the WP install sits too). I have created a sub folder within this root web folder, where my 2nd domain resolves to (2nd domain = https://www.lizandiantietheknot.com). Currently, that domain correctly resolves to this sub folder, which is what I want. So far, so good.

But after playing with the multisites in WP and the domain mapping plug in, something isn’t hooked up just right. Check out what I mean:
My WP subdomin (https://lizandiantietheknot.smokeymaverick.com/) resolves correctly to the right sub folder.
My 2nd domain (https://www.lizandiantietheknot.com) resolves correctly to the right sub folder.
But when I try to go to the dashboard for the subdomain of https://lizandiantietheknot.smokeymaverick.com/wp-login.php it doesn’t work…. somethings up.

Further more, when I view “My Sites” in the WP dashboard, I can clearly see the 3 sites I’ve set up:
    https://www.lizandiantietheknot.com/MySitesSaysThreeSitesExist.gif

When I view my main WP dashboard however, it only reports that I only have 1 site:
    https://www.lizandiantietheknot.com/DashboardSaysOnly1SiteExists.gif

So obviously the piping is broken somewhere – can anyone help point me in the right files/area to look for the broken pipe so I can hook it all up?

One thing: With the MU Domain Plugin, I found different how-to’s – after already doing it, I found a how-to from June of 2010 that said I had to create an mu-plugins folder and move a domain_mapping.php file to that folder – I did not do that. After installing MU Domain Mapping plugin, all I did was move the Sunshine.php file up to the folder that I was instructed to. Not sure if that is causing an issue or not – but I’d assume my problem is deeper… my problem is with MultSites not being recognized on the main Dashboard nor having the subdomain/wp-login work!

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

    – Ian

What do you see on Network Admin -> All Sites?

On your single dashboard it only lists sites that *you specifically* are the admin on.

If the other two sites in the network have different admins.. .they are not “your” sites.

    Thanks for responses guys.

Ipstenu: Screenshot of my Network Admin -> All Sites page. Again shows 3 sites there…

Andrea_r: I wasn’t on my one site’s dashboard – I was on my Network Admin’s dashboard, which I’d assume would show all of my sites… so it should show 3 sites and 1 user (I only have 1 user setup in my WP install, and I’d be the admin on all 3 sites). In fact – completely strange, I’ve changed nothing with my WP configuration since last night – and now it is CORRECTLY showing 3 sites 1 user?! Strange, but ok… that’s what I expected to see.

Anywho, the background piping is still not correct – for when I’m on my Network Admin -> All Sites page, and try to click the Dashboard link to go to the sites WP Admin dashboard, I get an Internal Server Error.

So that’s my current problem – somewhere my Multisite is not hooking up my subdomain folder of my 2nd blag/site with my primary WP installation. The dirty hack would be to just install another instance of WP in the subdirectory, the way it’d have to be done before multisite – but this is what I get for trying to do it the right, clean way I guess ??

Ah, okay. What mapping plugin is that? Did you check the box to redirect the wp-admin side?

Ipestenu: Mapping Plugin: WordPress MU Domain Mapping (v. Version 0.5.4.1 | By Donncha O Caoimh)

Where would I find the box/option to check to redirect the wp-admin side?

    Thanks.

Under the SUB sites, in the Tools -> Domain Mapping menu item. Which is where you should map domains from, not the main network menu.

I had this same problem. It just happened to fix by itself in like a week after i created the 2 more sites

@andrea_r: What do you mean by “SUB sites” – like from the dashboard of smokeymaverick.com or dashboard of my 2nd site I should find a menu option of Tools -> Domain Mapping? Is that what you mean by the SUB sites? If so, I can’t get to the dashboard for my 2nd site… would anyone know where I could look to debug this and maybe tweak some configurations to try and get the piping in the background all looking in the right place?

Hopefully it will magically fix itself Akshay2598, but I’m not counting on it. I’ll just start with my backup plan around Tues night if I can’t get Multi Sites working- I’ll just make another installation of WP in the sub directory for the 2nd site.

Thanks for everyones help. I wasn’t able to fix this, so I went with the dirty hack – created another DB and made a 2nd install of WP in the sub directory – had it up and running in 5 minutes.

    Thanks for the help again.
