I have created a chld site of the theme Twenty-eleven.

The site works o.k. and I get no error messages

However, when I go to the Themes page, my child theme: twenty-eleven-child is shown but there is no image in the box, just black and white dots.

I will appreciate any advice anyone can give.

-sounds like you might be referring to the image used to visually represent the child theme in your WordPress dashboard.
-did you add a screenshot image in your folder for the child theme?

    Lisa,

Thank you so much. You have been very kind and I do appreciate it. I struggle with all this now as I think my faculties are gradually failing from old age.

I know that there is a massive amount of information online about all aspects of WordPress etc. but sifting or searching for exactly what I need I often find to be just more than that with which I can cope.

Adding that image was simple. I just hadn’t known that I needed to do it.

I apologise to all for probably not putting this query in the right place. I will try to do better in future. Thankfully, this seems to be a great community largely free of the judgmental who quickly pounce, elsewhere, on dolts such as I.

    Thanks again.
