• It appears I’ve been very misguided and worked in a premium theme, customised it using plugins etc and published it without making a child theme first.

Now that my theme has a new update I want to implement the changes without losing the customisation and having to go through each line of code and copying it over. One of the main reasons is that I’m not sure what all the code does and don’t want to break everything!

So I was wondering if I could upload the old original theme that I bought as the parent, and then make a child theme using an FTP downloaded version of my theme with its changes.

I was hoping that if I did that I could them update the parent theme and get the changes that way.

I hope that makes sense. Is this possible?

    Many thanks in advance

you might find it helpful to contact the theme’s author for guidance for what you want to do.

They said it was a general WordPress enquiry hence why I’m here.

since I don’t know the premium theme or have access to it since it is not a theme on www.ads-software.com, I can’t say for sure which modified items might be in theme options vs changes to theme template or CSS file.

that is the reason I recommended you ask the theme author —so you don’t inadvertently over-write certain changes.

(things you might have changed in theme options area would be found in the options table in your database.) look for theme_mods_(your theme name)
