Creating a new template for events

Is there any suggestion on best way to do this?
As the plugin uses single.php to display events I want to hide post dates and other elements that look broken.
The suggestion in the guide with post date is to display:none which clearly isn’t a solution as that would hide it from all posts and I only want to hide elements for event posts.
