• I want to create a new WP site with the same domain as the one I currently have. I’ve tried to do this once before with another site I maintain, and it didn’t go so well, so I thought I’d ask for help FIRST. ??

I have a website that the client wants to remain active until the new site is ready. How do I go about doing this? I believe I need to create a subdirectory, but I’m not exactly sure how to do that. Can anyone offer any advice, help or nuggets of wisdom?

Correct. Then see Allow WordPress to take over the root domain when you are ready to launch the new site.

I m sort of in the same boat, I have a site and domain on Wix, but I want to learn WP because I m designing websites and I want to be able to use it.. I got the Hostgator server and downloaded WP, but had to give my site info.. Now I guess I m supposed to change my name servers to have the log in to admin show up.. But I don’t want to that.. Is there a way to work in WordPress and keep all my stuff at Wix as well?.. well.. without buying a wholenew domain?

@esmi So sorry.. Didn’t mean to interrupt. It was my first post and I was very out of sorts..

So, I have to create a subdirectory… how do I do that? I’m sorry, I tried to do this once before and had some MAJOR problems, so I want to make sure I do this right the FIRST time ??

Hi! You will will want to create a sub domain with your clients hosting company. Who are you hosting with? Most hosting companies have a really good support system. My suggestion is to jump on a chat with them and have them walk you thru it.

Before you do anything else, I do recommend that you back up the existing website. It is always best to do that prior to make any cpanel or hosting changes.
