• Good morning,

Our main website [ redundant link removed ] is on Squarespace and is quite old and fairly large.

I have two subdomain websites on WordPress—and I’m very happy with WordPress.

I would like to move our main website to WordPress but be able to take time to transfer, update and edit pages.

Can I create a new, secure SSL website on WordPress and build it in real time while the old “http:” website is still up and running?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Sincerely,

    Tim Magee

How are you hosting this site? If it’s on your own server (or VPS), you could route traffic on port 80 to one place and 443 to another. I doubt that you could do this with any host.

    Good morning Steve,

    Thank you for your reply.

No, the site is hosted at cPanel.

Okay then, how can I rebuild an old site—turning it into a new, modern site at WordPress “off-line” while the old site is still in operation?

And as I build this new, off-line site can I create it as an SSL site?

Is there like a plug-in for this

    Thanks again for your help.

    Sincerely Tim

No plugins are necessary for SSL. Build your site wherever you want. Want you want to make it live, move it to the new site (on which you’ll have installed an SSL cert for the domain). See https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress and https://wp-root.org/moving-wordpress/
