Creating a Table

Hi matta087,

If you want to use a table to format some content, then the plugin TinyMCE Advanced adds that option as a button on the toolbar:

If you want to create tabular data that is complex, sometimes people use a table specific plugin like Ninja Tables:

Just wondering, why does this plugin not have the editor features of the regular blog posts for WordPress? Wouldn’t be easier to inherit the functions from the default editor?

Also, is it possible to create a TOC that links INSIDE a page only and not to other pages? Like say for example, the TOC include will automatically add all headings within the page (heading 1, heading 2, heading 3) and list them as a TOC accordingly. Just like MediaWiki.

The new Gutenberg / Blocks editor uses a version of ReactJS. I don’t know ReactJS and I spent some time trying to integrate Yada Wiki into the Block editor, but the functionality, where you have a popup and then insert the input inline with the content, was considered an advanced edge case. The Block editor is continually being improved so it is not out of the question that using the Block editor will be an option in the future, but I don’t know yet.

I haven’t used it, but the Table of Contents Plus plugin seems to work.

Hey dmccan, is it possible for wiki pages to inherit the font of the main blog page?

Hi matta087, They are the same. The first page you link to is an archive or blog post list, but if you click on one of the titles and view the single post the font sizes are the same as the second page you link to. Hope that makes sense. It is possible that your theme has settings for the font size for the blog and single in the Customizer.

No worries, glad to help.

When you insert the image, check on the right side of the page in the image library and there should be a panel called Display Settings. On images that are already inserted, you can click on it and then click the pencil icon to edit the image. In the dialog that opens you should also see a display settings dialog.

I’ve found after years of using WordPress that for images where I want a specific size that I should create it at that size. Otherwise I’ve had images show as different sizes and it doesn’t look as coherent. For example, the thumbnails on the home page or the spell icons seem to be slightly different sizes.

My Ninja table does not have an edit sign – I duplicated it. Does that mean I can not edit a duplicated table?

Hi @jnodar – If you mean the professional feature of Ninja Tables that lets you edit on the front-end, then you need to go into the admin interface for Ninja Tables, edit the table, and there is a tab for “Frontend Editing”. When you go to that screen you turn on frontend editing for the table and select the items you want to allow to be edited and the user roles. Maybe when you duplicate a table that permission is not copied automatically? Anyway, I tried a Ninja Table that I duplicated, embedded it in a Wiki post, and was able to edit it on the front end.

Hi Jose,

When you go to create a new table the top option is labeled “Default”. Tables created that way are the only ones that support frontend editing. The message:

“This table can not be editable on frontend, Only “Default” data source tables can be editable”

also appears if you try to enable frontend editing in the WordPress admin on a table created using the other methods. Sadly, you cannot use Ninja Tables to create a frontend edit form for Custom Post Types. It doesn’t have anything to do with Yada Wiki, it is the way that Ninja Tables works.

If you just purchased it then they will probably give you a refund. I own it and use the plugin. It might be possible to combine it with their Fluent Forms plugin to create frontend forms … but I’ve not done that and you should probably contact them. If you are on Facebook they have a very active group.
