Creating a unique front page with excerpts

  • Hi all.

    I’ve figured out the very basics of templating with wp.
    I’ve also found a guide for creating static front pages.

    However, there is something I have figured out yet, and I don’t really know where to look:

    I would like to have two templates: one for a front page, that will have it’s own content, and include a section with excerpts of the last x number of posts…

    … and a secondate template that will wrap around my posts.

    Is there a guide around that provides a guide on how to do this?
    Where would I look in the docs to help me approach this problem?
