Hi, I’m trying to create a database in the style of Wikia/Fandom and just starting to dip my toes into the waters and finding that having basically no coding knowledge means I’m in way over my head. I’ve gotten my head wrapped around things like the TOC and category pages so the general navigation’s going fine but I’m having trouble when it comes to the individual content pages. I’m trying to make a template that will encompass the information that I want to organize, where I can hopefully simply fill in the various fields per-page without having to build each one from the ground up. What I’m trying to create looks like this:

    Main body
    Category Display

I just grabbed a random page off Wikipedia but it’s very close to the sort of thing I’m hoping to create. Header, a couple of sections per page with a jump menu just below the title and an infobox on the right side (with space for an image at the top of it, the only thing the sample page didn’t have), then a listing of the Wiki Categories I’ll assign to each page at the very bottom.

I’m using the Twenty Sixteen theme and I’ve already set up a child theme so I can play with a few details. I’m currently working on this offline or I’d link you to it. Anyhow, any suggestions you have for how I’d set up something like that, whether it’s an explanation or just pointing me to a good resource, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and I love the plugin. It’s not failing me here, I’m failing it.

    Hi Yotaka,

You might try experimenting with the Duplicate Post plugin:

I think you’d need to make sure that the permalink was updated, but other than that it seems like it might work. Perhaps you could make a “template” and then duplicate it.

An advanced option might be to use something like Advanced Custom Fields (has free version here) or Pods (free) to add field sets to the Wiki content type and then create a PHP template for wiki pages with those extra fields styled and placed as you want them. I’m not sure if the Wiki shortcodes would be processed unless they were in the content area. That is something that would have to be checked. Creating a PHP template is doable but is a power user or developer type of thing.

    Best,

    David
