• When editing a page and I click on a block and use ‘add to block patterns’, the pattern shows up in a category named after my site and it is locked. Is this normal default behaviour, controlled by the theme, or unexpected and I should troubleshoot my plugins? If it is normal, how do I unlock my growing collection of locked patterns?

I’m running 6.5.4 with the Gutenberg plugin active. I’m using a child theme I created for use with the Ollie parent theme.

Using the 2024 default theme, the related block’s option is called “create pattern”, not “add to block patterns”. And such a pattern is not locked, and is located under “My Patterns”. I suspect your theme or one of your plugins has altered default behavior. Do some troubleshooting to determine which module is doing this, then seek advice on unlocking through that module’s dedicated support channel.

Normally, patterns defined by your theme are locked and those you create yourself are not.
