Creating front page with header text and grid of blog posts Pinboard theme

I am having trouble with the front page of my site. I’m using the pinboard theme, and have got the slider up and running, and I have got my posts to appear in a grid. I’m am looking to have a piece of static text below the slider and above the blog posts. Any ideas?

Would also like to know if it is possible to stop the most recent post from appearing full width across the top of the page? I would like to have just three blog posts, all equal across the page, again any ideas would be appritiated.
