• I went to wordpress.com for this question but they advised me to come here because I have Bluehost. I would like to create blogs for different subjects under my domain: thesweetnetwork.com. I have a static home page with my business info. Then I have a page for my blog. I want to create pages for different subjects to add posts myself and allow others to add posts through blog events. For example, I want to have a page called parenting and a page called health. Each page will have posts. Is this possible?

  • Yes, you can do this using categories for the posts in different category posts – add the category menu items to your menu by setting up a custom menu.

Note that you won’t be using static pages for those items – “pages” can be a bit confusing because a WP (static) page is not the same thing as a generic “(web)page”.

Thank you. I will try this. So when I want someone to post to my blog under health (subcategory: recipes) I need to direct them to click on the subcategory?

    Hi @fanteema
WPyogi has answered your question, But I think as a newbie you have more doubts.

Yes you should. And remember one more thing, If you want your user to post article on your blog or site you should open your registration, so that visitors can create account in your site, or you can also send them login info after creating account for them.

    Thanks

They need to assign that category/sub-category to their posts in order for it to appear on that page.

I would not recommend allowing just anyone to register – or you will get a lot of spammers.

Hi @wpyogi Oh yes There are a lot of spammers. But I was just trying to simplify the process.
Thanks for giving it a light.

Thank you both for the assistance. I’m a little confused about the registration piece. I was originally thinking of hosting blog events under certain categories. I’ll use the health example again. Let’s say I want people to host recipes they have tried as a part of my weekly blog event. I understand what to do with the categories now. But do I need to have people register on my site in order to submit for the events? If so, how can I protect the site from spam and make the process easy for me and users?

    Hi

If you need users to only register for your event, you can use any plugin for this.
But if you want them to share their thoughts after event, this can be accomplish by Comments.
You can use Akismet Plugin to stop spammers. But this will work for comments only.
I hope it will help you.

Sorry for the delayed response. It took me some time to set up my event. I downloaded an event plugin and created an event. Is there anything else I need to do for people to be able to post to it?
