I had to uninstall the page lists plus plug-in because of warning messages on my home page. That problem is fixed but now the home page name in the navigation bar has changed. Can you tell me how to make the page name in the navigation bar different, in this case shorter, than the page name? I am wanting to change “Welcome to Alpaca Meadows” to “Home”, in the navigation bar.

I have read about solutions in the forums, changing page names in Menu, but that has made no difference on my site.

    Hoping for help!

Under Appearance -> Menus, you can change the label for a page

    Steve,

I had tried this, and did it again after receiving your message, but this has not fixed the problem.

    Any other ideas?

That’s how it’s done, unless you have a plugin or theme that overrides it.

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    Steve,

I received the following error while in the process of deactivating plug-ins, after installing Health Check:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/content/30/6727830/html/wp/wp-includes/formatting.php on line 5122

I tried three different times, receiving this same message each time, so was unable to do as you suggested. Can you help with this problem?

Do you get the timeout when using Health Check’s troubleshooting mode to deactivate plugins or if you try do deactivate plugins “manually”. Also, do you have any “MU” plugins listed?

Also, can you post a screenshot of what you see in appearance->menu for the item you’ve changed? (Make sure you’re editing the right menu, too!)

    Steve,

As far as I can tell there only seems to be one menu, the main menu. It seems like something must be overriding it. I have also tried to change the name of The Store to Online Store and nothing changed. I took a screenshot, but don’t see where to attach it here. Please advise.

I have 35 plug-ins. Should I send screenshots? I don’t know what you mean by MU plugins.

I have deactivated the Page Lists Plus plug-in, which apparently was the problem when all of a sudden my home page was filled with warning messages. Should I delete it?

Thank you for your help, sorry I couldn’t get back to you sooner.

    I have 35 plug-ins.

My eyes just did one of those cartoon “BOOIIIIIING!” things.

The page list plugin (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/page-lists-plus/) has not been updated for 8 years. I strongly and urgently suggest you remove it and find something to replace its functionality.

The cartoon “BOOIIIIING” doesn’t sound good. I have deleted the plugin. Do you have a suggestion to replace it? I don’t even know what it did.

And the other plug-ins? Should I send you screenshots, and perhaps delete some of them?

Rather than send me your list of plugins, spend some time looking at what each one does, whether it’s still supported, and whether you need it.

How do I know if a plugin is still supported? How many plugins are recommended? I take it 35 is too many.

I still have the initial problem of not being able to change a page name in the navigation to a shorter name. Could I send you a screenshot of the menu?

I do not want to see your plugin list.
