I’ve developed a problem with my WordPress install. It’s all worked beautifully until very recently – the last couple of days.

When I go to create a new post, or save one that is existing, wordpress crashes, and gives me this error..

“There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”

So OK, I get an email with a special link to get in via recovery mode. When I do that, I get in, and it’s got all kinds of red flags on Powerkit. The error is quite long, and starts with this..

“An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 24 of the file /helper-powerkit-reading-time.php” I redacted the full URL of that, but it ends in that.

I also get this in there:

“Error message: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function mb_ereg_replace() in /reading-time/helpers/helper-powerkit-reading-time.php”

I have no idea what is going on here – any suggestions?

    Powerkit is 2.7.1
    Wordpress is 5.9.3
    PHP is 7.4.29

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

When I was out running errands, I got an update from my blog saying the plugin auto updated itself to 2.72.

I got home and tried the two things that would crash my WordPress install, and neither seems to happen anymore, so that appears to be fixed for me.

    Tkx for the timely update.
