Creating new wordpress site while former one stays online

    Hi everyone,

    I am currently working as a temporary community manager for a non-profit organization. Their current www.ads-software.com website (hosted on OVH) is outdated and they cannot update it on their own.

    I am just getting started with WordPress and I would like to create a new website using a template like Blocksy (they need something very simple to edit since I won’t be around to update it after the end of my mission). How do I create a new website while the other one is online ? I read that I should either create a new subdomain and host my new website there or download WordPress locally. What would be the best course of action ? I would like the migration to be as simple as possible when the new website is done.

    Install a 2nd WordPress in the hosting. That would be the easiest way. Talk to the hoster’s support if you need help with this.

    Alternatively, you can also use this plugin to set up a staging system: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-staging/

    Thanks for the help ! I created a new subdomain, however to set up WordPress the 1 click easy option does not work because the PHP version is obsolete (7.0). I tried updating it through the host but it does not offer updates for a better version than 7.3, is that normal ?

    Please contact your hoster’s support team with these questions. The current WordPress is also compatible with PHP 7.0, but you should rather use PHP 8.1 at the moment. If your host can’t offer this, I would recommend you look for another one – there are many to choose from.
