I intend to replace my current WP site and blog with a new one using a different theme and different page organization.

    – Would the best method be to install a new instance of WP on my web host and do the development there?

    – How would I bring over all the blog posts and comments into the new site when it’s time to go live with the new one?

    – All ideas and comments appreciated.

  • I would recommend migrating current blog posts / pages / comments (at (Administration | Tools | Export/Import) to a new instance of WP right now and do the development there (including re-organization of pages). After the development is done, you will need one more iteration of moving content from old site to new (only content created after the first move).

Have a look at more detailed explanation of standard export process: https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

Thanks, Mikhail. For now, I’m be only changes to my current site, but when I’m ready to create a new one I’ll take your (and the linked article’s) advice.
